History of the Hellenistic and Roman World:About

This website is the descendant of an article that I wrote in 2 weeks back in June 1997. I had become so frustrated by the complete lack of any easily available information about Gaius Julius Caesar on the web, that I decided to write an article myself (fortunately, the situation is much improved today). After the article started hitting 10,000 his per month, I decided to move it off my university account and took it to Geocities in 2000. Unfortunately, Geocities policy back then of temporarily closing down a website if it exceeded a daily bandwidth quota resulted in the several closures a month by the summer of 2001. From January 2002, the biography of Julius Caesar has found its - hopefully final - home on this address.

Over time, I hope to add more historical material to this site; both more full-length articles (such as the biography of Scipio Africanus), but also additional historical "thumbnails" such as already exist on the site.

Enjoy.
